UrbanSand 60-40
Combining the advantages of SBSS with the benefits of GBSS

In terms of ease of use, UrbanSand 60-40 is as convenient as SBSS. You can apply it manually. Also, unlike GBSS, UrbanSand 60-40 may be applied directly around underground utilities. This means it is no longer necessary to apply a sand pack around the cables, as is required for GBSS, to prevent damage to the utilities.

In terms of compaction, UrbanSand 60-40 has the advantages of GBSS; it can be maximally compacted, which prevents subsidence, unlike other SBSS. UrbanSand 60-40 can therefore be used under parking bays, roads – in residential areas, neighbourhoods – and squares.

UrbanSand 60-40 is the compromise between the needs of a tree and a solid construction for the pavement. Therefore, both civil engineering and tree requirements have been set for this soil mix.

Description

UrbanSand 60-40 is similar in application to UrbanSand 300, but is more load-bearing. Applicable under parking bays and roads with minimal heavy traffic load, such as residential areas, residential yards and squares. Could be processed in combination with a sandwich panel, but is often not necessary due to the load-bearing capacity of the product. Aeration is recommended in most cases.

Applying UrbanSand 40-60

  • Apply to a depth not exceeding 20 centimetres above the average highest measured groundwater level, or not excavated deeper than 0.10 m above the top of the reduced zone.
  • Process only if the moisture content is below 20%.
  • Do not process deeper than 1 meter.
  • Apply in compacted layers not exceeding 20 cm.
  • Each layer should be compacted the same day.
  • Compact the upper 0.20 m layer between 95% and 100% proctor.
  • Do not compact by soaking/ watering.
  • Do not allow the UrbanSand 60-40 to rain wet before it is compacted and finished.
  • Cover with waterproof sheet if there is a chance of precipitation.
  • There should be no water in the planting area when processed.
  • When applied deeper than 60 cm, an aeration system is recommended.
