Het Vario Wick system is referred as Second water table system. All over the world, the climate is changing. And increasingly, we are facing long droughts alternating with extreme rain events. The Vario Wick captures rainwater during extreme rain showers. By doing so, it also relieves the sewer or drainage system at once. The water is retained in the system so it can be reused. Due to the suction effect of the dehydrated substrate above it, the water is pulled up by fibres, capillary.
Applicable:
– Under trees. Where the tree cannot access the groundwater.
– On a roof garden. Between the roof and the roof garden substrate.
– Under various semi-paved areas. Resulting in less dust and more cooling effect.

The Vario Wick is a water storage system, the water can quickly flow into the system where it is stored to be used in the dry periods. The system is available in various heights, up to 30cm and higher on request. Stacking several layers is not necessary, the boxes are delivered at the desired height. This saves you a lot of installation time and the load-bearing capacity is guaranteed. Depending on your application, you can also equip the system with smart dischargers to ensure your system is dry as soon as the next rain shower is expected. The system can be applied almost anywhere. Even in places where high load-bearing capacity is required. For under trees in open ground or trees in structural soil, the standard boxes already have sufficient load-bearing capacity.
Where trees cannot reach the groundwater and extra watering is needed during the dry summer months, the Vario Wick is an ideal system. No complex irrigation system but a passive irrigation system. Also in cases where the soil water is too salty for the tree roots. Then the system also immediately forms a barrier against this salty water. Typically, the system is applied with a salt barrier in these cases.
Just like a natural ground water, the VBS can store a lot of water very quickly, and during drought this water is capillary available to the tree. Depending on the height of the system, you can easily harvest up to 300 ltr of extra water per m2.
